‘Sometimes one feels freer speaking to a stranger than to people one knows. Why is that?”
“Probably because a stranger sees us the way we are, not as he wishes to think we are.’

― Carlos Ruiz Zafón, The Shadow of the Wind

In my second book, which is definitely coming out this year! I share about the many times I felt pressured to meet the expectations of others, instead of living in my truth. It was only when I faced my fears and questioned the beliefs I had about myself, that I allowed my authenticity to emerge.

When we feel comfortable living in our authentic truth, we stop being the person that everyone else wants us to be. However, this is a choice. And often it’s not until we are exhausted or overwhelmed from living out this story, that we decide it is time to be free.

One of the ways that helped me awaken my truth, was to question my intentions and actions in life.

  1. Why are you doing this?
  2. Are you doing this because it feels right or because you think you have to?
  3. What motivates you to act in this way?
  4. Are you rewarded or acknowledged for this behavior?
  5. Where do you feel most comfortable being you?

Questions open up our energy and allow us to be honest with ourselves. In doing so, we become clear about who we are and what we should be doing in life. In this space, we allow our authentic nature to awaken.

Why is it that we are surprised when there is suffering or challenges in our life?

Pema Chödrön reminds us that when things fall apart it’s not only to challenge us but to create change and healing in us. So often, I have resisted suffering or the challenging times, however, when I allow life to fall apart and work through the teaching it has for me, I come back together again more easily.

Life is always evolving and our only job is to practice moving with it, and learning how to adapt to the changes. Pema says that our healing comes from letting there be room for everything. Room for our grief, for relief, for renewal, for misery, for joy and allowing ourselves to let it all go and start again.

Freedom, resilience and peace are always found in this practice.

Wheel of the Year Painting by Antony Galbraith

In Celtic tradition, time is depicted as a wheel, as in many indigenous traditions, always turning and moving through the cycles of seasons.

Each day is a new beginning and each evening an end, however, nothing is ever final or lost, because everything returns again – in one way or another – in a repeating natural cycle.

And although ‘time’ in our modern world is usually regarded as linear, the cyclical nature of life continues to be recognized, and when we understand this deeply, we can trust that life will always renew itself and be born again in another form.

Our state just went into lock down for three days. We have had a couple of active COVID cases in the community and as we all know, its so important to take the necessary precautions with COVID and because of this, Australia has kept on top of it so far.

Each one of us no matter where we live, is learning to adapt in a new way and understanding that although we do not have certainty, we do have control over our attitude and how we care for one another.

The spiral of life shows us that this too shall pass, and life will continue to renew and restore itself again and again.
