Be like Water

“You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.”  Bruce Lee

If I ever feel stuck in life, my sister always reminds me, “Be like water, and move with it.”

As all life is a continuous movement, when I’m resisting what is, I do not flow and this creates heaviness in me.

Therefore in order to release this, I must first accept myself and my situation and gently begin to open as I move and flow into the infinite space of creativity.

Nothing is weaker than water,
But when it attacks something hard
Or resistant, then nothing withstands it,
And nothing will alter its way.

Tao Te Ching

  1. Wonderful post, Karen. Water is soft and powerful, and I appreciate the Bruce Lee quote as a reminder. Today, I shall be like water…soft and strong. Thank you. I really needed this. 💕

  2. Water finds the point of least resistance and flows. You will never see water running up hill which is what we do sometimes being stuck in the past. Trust n the process or the “flow” It’s been a long time since I’ve read that Bruce Lee quote. Thank you for reminding me of it.

  3. One of my favorite concepts of the Dao de Jing, Karen, love this post. Most people I know are infatuated with water at some level. Whether it is the sounds as it flows, its natural flexibility or the strength and power we can see in nature – water both relaxes and invigorates me. Wishing you a great weekend ahead.
