We must learn to forgive people who are not sorry, people who are convinced they are in the right, and people who may even think that we are the ones who should be sorry.
At times, we have all had to face a friend, stranger or a family member that we needed to forgive, with or without acknowledgement from them.
Anger, resentment and fear are all emotions we experience in our life and when we hold onto these emotions because we feel we are right or feel an injustice has been done to us, this energy only serves to harm us.
I wrote a letter to the driver that hit my son Nathan after his death and I told her that I forgave her. It was an immense relief to do this and I felt so much lighter after forgiving her. Through forgiveness, I was able to let go of my anger and pain.
We must never forget that there is no separation between us, there is no “enemy” and “victim” in our story, we are all connected to each other. When I forgave the driver, I forgave myself and when I hold her in light and love, I receive this too and so, this is why we cannot hold onto our pain and wounds from the past.
Forgiveness is an act of self-love. Whatever you hold or do to one another, you do for yourself.
“Blaming has no positive effect at all, nor does trying to persuade using reason and argument….
No blame, no reasoning, no argument, just understanding.
If you understand, and you show that you understand, you can love, and the situation will change.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

Karen,
Your, courage, faith and selfless act provides inspiration and hope for a world that is much less forgiving. You are not far from the cross of Christ. For your forgiveness of one joins you with He who forgave the world.

Val found the very right words about Forgiveness; “This is where true peace begins.” And you said “Forgiveness is an act of self-love.”… great post Karen, really! Thank you so much for sharing such wise and helpful thoughts! ♥
Forgiveness is an act of self-love but it is very difficult to do! Thankyou Frederic and may peace be with you today and everyday.
Thanks for this post, Karen. Your message is the same as the book that I’m reading (A Course In Miracles). It reinforces the message when I hear it from more than one messenger.
“Nothing real can be threatened.
Nothing unreal exists.
Herein lies the peace of God.” A course in Miracles by Dr. Helen Schucman
Thankyou MK, I must go and read this beautiful book. There are always messengers in our life.
