“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” Aristotle
Paulo Coelho has written many books like the Alchemist, Eleven minutes and Aleph. His wisdom and understanding teach us to search within, and discover our real treasure.
He tells the story of three Gods who want to hide the secret of life from humankind.
One day the gods were discussing the secret of life and where they should hide it so that men and women could not find it.
Bury it under a mountain, one god suggests. No, the others counter, they will find a way to dig up the mountain and uncover it.
Put the secret of life in the depths of the deepest ocean, another god suggests. No, the others say, one day they will find a way to travel to the depths of the ocean and will find it there.
Put the secret inside them, suggests another, they will never think to look for it there. All the gods agreed, and so the secret of life was hidden within us.
Whenever I struggle, I often want to run or find a solution outside myself.
In the stillness. In my pain. The answers are always within.
Love the story about the gods, Karen. Why is the inside often the last place we look? ❤

Well I think we believe that looking outside ourselves, or to others is a quicker or easier, option. Looking within takes effort and patience. It takes us away from the noise and busyness of life and makes us face our fears. I think it’s worth all of that, to find my answers! Thankyou Diana.
Our inner self is way too powerful. Even the wisest words can’t break it. How we are always dominate.
Yes, exactly the truth Rommel. 🙂 Have a great weekend.
I think it often is more painful to look inside, why we are so good to look all other places for the truth 😉
Yes very true Irene. We like to avoid our inner knowing at all costs! ❤️
Thank you for this message.
You are very welcome. Thanks for stopping by.
Just what I needed to hear this morning. Thanks!
Thanks Vicki, I needed it the other day too. It’s good to remind each other. 🙂 Lovely to hear from you.
What a great story. Beautiful image at the top with wonderful Aristotle quote.
Patience to listen. Our culture is so geared toward the quick fix. Wouldn’t it be nice if we all learned to go within. Maybe addictions would lessen greatly.
Interesting that you should speak of addictions Mary. I have been reading and listening to some teachers about addictions. How we develop a relationship with addictions, to help numb the wound within us. Once we heal the wound within, we no longer need that relationship with drugs. Seems easy to say, but very difficult to do. Thankyou for your comment. 🙂
Yes, that is exactly what addictions do. People self medicate their pain. Then the only way they can feel normal is with that substance or behavior. Then once they are numb, they can’t heal. Such a vicious circle.
The answer is within, there’s nowhere else to search. I know I can trust this truth, and it brings peace. There are those days when I’m struggling so hard just to stay above some distress (of my own making), that I forget. And the circle is complete, because the beginning of the storm (for me) is also within.
You are right MK. Perfect reflection of how it happens. Not always what we want to hear, but when we sit in stillness and know this is the truth; we also start to live fully. Thankyou for your thoughts.
“In the stillness. In my pain…..” There it is.
“There it is” uncomfortable as it is at times, it is where we find our peace. Thankyou.
So beautiful Karen. Your last line will stay with me for a long time. xo
Thankyou Val. In this place, I always find healilng. I appreciate your support. 🙂
Your posts are so quietly wise, Karen. They sometimes make me pause, other times make me nod in agreement, and always make me think. Thank you…
Thankyou so much Lori. Your comment means a lot.
Karen this is so beautiful. Love it ALL xx.
Thankyou Kath. You are certainly living it at the moment!. Have a beautiful afternoon. 🙂
Love this passage from Coelho, and so true and while we know this we need gentle reminders to come back to that place. Thank you.
We do need to connect to our inner wisdom and knowing. It is a gift. Thankyou.
Amen, Karen.
“Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.”-Matthew 5:8
And isn’t that what we seek? Absolute truth, perfect love and everlasting life.

We all seek that Alan, so true. Thankyou.

Thankyou Lorrie. I am well. I hope you are recovering each day and you feel your strength returning. 🙂
Aw…thanks Karen!! I am deep in the process 🙂 Most times I am in the moment and learning 😉 ♡
That’s a good place to be Lorrie. When we live in the moment we can work through our pain more easily. ❤️❤️
A good lesson there, Karen .. thank you.
Thanks Jim. It is a lesson, that although difficult at times, connects me to the truth. I appreciate your comment.
