I have posted these words below before, but today they are very relevant to me. My beautiful cousin has just found out he has stomach cancer. He is 32yrs old. He lost his twin brother to suicide two years ago and on Friday he finds out if his cancer is terminal.
Is life full of suffering? Yes indeed, it is at times. It is totally unfair and unreal for some families, I think so.
So how do we cope and how do we tell those we love in situations like this, there is still justice and joy and love in the world? We don’t.
What we do is wish them enough. We support them, love them, pray for them and hope for them. We offer them today. We encourage them to accept these circumstances, to stay present and to always have hope, because hope gives us a future.
So I wish you enough today my beautiful cousin. You have been through so much over the years and yet, you are still with us now. Miracles happen all the time and love is always constant, and today I wish you all this and much much more.
“Recently I overheard a father and daughter at the airport as they were saying goodbye. They had announced her departure and standing near the security gate, they hugged and he said, “I love you. I wish you enough.” She in turn said, Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too.”
“When you were saying goodbye I heard you say, “I wish you enough.” May I ask what that means?”
He began to smile. “That’s a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone.” He paused for a moment and looking up as if trying to remember it in detail, he smiled even more.”When we said ‘I wish you enough,’ we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them,” he continued and then turning toward me he shared the following as if he were reciting it from memory.
I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish enough hello’s to get you through the final goodbye.
He then began to sob and walked away.
This is sad news. I wish both you and your cousin enough.
Thankyou Micheal. I appreciate your thoughts.
Beautiful post Karen. So powerful. I wish you enough from my heart.
Thankyou Val. I will send it on to him.
Karen,
I can only echo your own words. And offer a prayer.

I have always loved this saying, I wish you enough. It is absolutely beautiful. I am sorry to hear of your news and I do wish you both “enough.”
Thankyou for your kind comment. His prognosis is better than expected and so we are very grateful.
Holding your dear cousin, you and your loved ones in my heart. A lovely post. Wishing you both enough…
Thankyou so much Vicki, I appreciate your support.
Sorry to hear about your cousin Karen I wish you all peace, love and health.
Thankyou so much Kath, he isn’t terminal which was such a relief, he does however have a very tough road of chemo, radiotherapy and surgery ahead, so we are taking one step at a time. x
All my love is with you and your beautiful cousin. xxx
Thankyou so much, I appreciate your thoughts.
So glad it isn’t terminal, but sorry about the tough road! I know, given your life experience that you will be there for him in a beautiful way. You know that just being there is sometimes the best gift. I love the “enough” story. Thank you for that. May “the smallest joys in both your lives appear much bigger!”
Mary
Thankyou Mary for such a thoughtful comment. I agree just being there supporting, accepting and holding this situation in light is all we can do and that is enough. I appreciate your compassion.
