Gratefulness

I practice gratitude because it has helped me through many challenges in life.  I know we have all written about gratitude before and yet, I often need to be reminded of the power and the vibration of gratitude and how it attracts positive experiences into my life.

Gratitude is such a wonderful expansive energy, as it helps us see a bigger picture in life, rather than the problem we are facing right now.

I often say to myself, “As bad as it seems, what can I still be grateful for?”  I can always find a list of things.  Once I start naming what I am grateful for, it begins to grow and suddenly what seemed overwhelming, can become acceptable.

This doesn’t mean we do not acknowledge our pain, anger or sadness after a tragedy or challenge, rather, it is a practice that can help shift our thoughts and state of mind when we get stuck during a difficult time.

When I practice stillness in my life, I can see my obstacles more clearly.  Gradually and overtime, I have come to see that after every experience, I gained something.  Sometimes it was a small comfort, sometimes it was a deep understanding and sometimes it was a shift in consciousness.  Either way, I realised I was always moving forward into a place I could learn and grow from.

How I see my challenges or difficult decisions in life will always be met by my attitude.  Am I grateful for this experience or am I looking at this issue negatively?  Once I ask myself this question, my attitude can change in a minute and suddenly I know what to do.

Taking time to find what we are grateful for helps us realise our abundance. Writing them down or speaking them out loud is just a few ways we can remind ourselves how much we already have.

  1. Karen in a world of social media dumps of people trying to sell us a better version of ourselves, I love this post. We are who we are and we have all we need. Beautiful. I am lucky my mum always believes everything happens for a reason, even the hard stuff. She taught me early to be grateful for the little things in life. Have a great day. Kath

    1. Thankyou Kath. Growing up with role models like your Mum, sets a wonderful understanding of how life can be when we see it through grateful eyes. It is a gift to have this knowledge during the good and the difficult times. Have a great weekend too.

I ask myself the same question, “What can I be grateful for in this moment?” It is easy to be grateful when things are going well, one must search a bit harder to find the gift when things aren’t so great. To me, it is a path out of suffering. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of folks (egos) that love their suffering and get mad when I suggest they look for the silver lining!
