Resilience

Often we believe that resilience and strength are available anytime we are suffering or are going through a challenging time. But I have found the opposite.

Resilience and strength are born and revealed in us when we step out into the unknown, and learn to move through and adapt to our suffering and the challenges we face, even when we have no idea how it will eventuate.

Each time we trust in this process, we grow and expand.

A Taoist story tells of an old man who accidentally fell into the river rapids, leading to a high and dangerous waterfall. Onlookers feared for his life. Many threw him ropes or tried to pull him out through various ways.

Miraculously, he came out alive and unharmed downstream at the bottom of the falls. People shocked by this event, asked him how he managed to survive.

“I accommodated myself to the water, not the water to me. Without thinking, I allowed myself to be shaped by it. Plunging into the swirl, I came out with the swirl. This is how I survive my challenges!”

  1. We are such amazing creatures Karen. Can change and adapt to so many things…and we do, if amazed at some of them. But ever building that the change that love is. Great post, and thank you for sharing what you have become because of that ❤️🙏

    1. It’s true Mark we all have the capacity to move through and adapt to any situation in life, however, the mind is very strong and stubborn and often limits our capacity to grow and evolve! Here’s to all the people who have had the courage to step out into the unknown and trust they will be guided. 👏🙏🏻☺️🩷

      1. Yes, it is a stubborn thing 🤗 I think it is because of that, that it is such a beautifully profound thing that we go beyond that stubbornness and trust that very life you speak. And in it create such beauty in finding that love within us. Thank you 😀❤️🙏

    1. It is a strong metaphor Ka. And in my experience when I have completely surrendered to my higher self and the universe during challenging times, it is in those moments, I open a space in me to see and feel more of who I really am. Our true being and nature is so much more than ego/person! Thank you for being here 🩷🧡

  2. Karen, Wonderful life lesson.

Too often we fail because of fear of what is before us. A runner wins a race not by avoiding the hurdles but by understanding them so to overcome them.

How many inspiring champions have been left by the wayside due to fear of what stood in their way.

“And David slung the stone and felled the Philistine.”

  3. (I‘m following your posts backwards because I didn‘t have the time and leisure to do so when you posted).
This goes so very well with your next post – by learning something from ‚leaning‘ into the stream, we get carried on. I‘ve learned to better what I can but mostly to accept what I cannot alter. It made me such a free-er person and this example is an excellent way to look at life. We CAN overcome obstacles, not always, but often in ways we wouldn‘t have considered earlier.
