Nancy Astor: “Winston, if you were my husband, I’d put poison in your coffee.”
Winston Churchill: “Nancy, if you were my wife, I’d drink it.”
Working on my relationships in life and with others in Counseling, one method I have enjoyed using, is the work of Byron Katie.
She believes the only time we suffer is when we believe a thought that argues with ‘what is.’
If we want our reality and our relationships to be different from what it is ‘now’, you might as well teach a cat to bark. You can try however, and try, but in the end, the cat will look up at you and say, “Meow.”
It doesn’t mean that we condone of approve of a tragic situation, it just means we can see things without resistance and without the confusion of our inner struggle and dialogue.
The other part of her work is turning the issue or the struggle we are having to face us. So an example of the problem could be;
Eg: “Paul doesn’t listen to me about his health or his diet.” Now turn it around to face you. “Where in my life am I not listening to my body. Where am I not nurturing myself?”
It always surprises me how often I find this within and once I discover this, I learn to change it and find, the problem fixes itself.
“Any man worth his salt will stick up for what he believes right, but it takes a slightly better man to acknowledge instantly and without reservation that he is in error.” — Andrew Jackson

and yes……. a cat, will always and only say – meow.

It is amazing that what we need is often placed right in front of us, we just have to pick it up. Today, thanks to you, I am doing just that! Byron Katie is such a wonderful guide, and I have stepped away from her teachings somewhat in my daily life, but I am going to revisit them! Beautiful. Thank you Karen!
That’s so good! I often do that too and it’s always good to return to the truth. Thanks Heather 💕
