Making a difference

The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people.  – Martin Luther King,Jr.

The tragedies around the world are a stark reminder that we have no control over what people decide to do to each other.  However, we do have complete control over our thoughts and actions after these events.

Making a conscious effort each day to be present and aware of our fears, sadness, anger and melancholy is a start.  Acknowledging these feelings and emotions within, is just as important as learning to let them go.

These tragedies remind us again and again of the fragility of life and how precious this moment is.  Each day we have an opportunity to use love and acts of kindness as our contribution.  Each day we can make a conscious effort to speak kindly to others, to let go of our judgment and to open our hearts with compassion for those who feel overwhelmed and lost.

We can choose to focus on injustice, death and wrong doing, or we can focus on practising kindness and peace.  Each of us can make a difference.

  1. As much as I hate seeing Pokemon Go all over Facebook, it’s good that the world has “something else”. 🙂 Im not making a lot of what is happening all over the globe. When my company had a bad rep from the locals, instead of dwelling on the negative we did, we just came up with a lot of good things to sort of balancing our shortcomings. I think that’s what needs to happen. The news need to make news on the positive as well.

    1. That’s a great attitude to have Rommel in business and in life! The media are only negative and so we have to find balance within us or just turn it all off. 😁😃

  2. Lovely. I try each day to do some small good: compliment a stranger, speak to a lonely person, pay for the coffee of the person in line in front of me. My hope is they play it forward.

  3. There is always a CHOICE. Learning to dig beyond the minutia to a point of relevance that adds meaning and purpose to our thoughts and actions presents an alternative option to living in FEAR and ANGER.

  4. Is my reaction contributing to the fear and anger or contributing to how i want the world to be …
Thank you for such a timely heart felt post Karen. 💛

  5. This is an important message. My hope that more and more people realize these truths you’ve written about, how we have control over our own responses, and that what we focus on gets bigger.

  6. Your words are a peaceful reminder that the chaos is to a certain extent this very large and abstract– overwhelming almost– sensation or idea we have. Fueled by so much information and heightened response. But to slip back into that moment of being present, and being loving… it brings with it such a fullness. As if we can hold the world in our hand and bless it. That is what I felt reading this… that little shift into a peace that is even bigger than the madness, yet as local as our own heart…

    Peace
    Michael

    1. Thankyou for such a beautiful comment and understanding Michael. I too feel that our peace and love within can be bigger than all the madness in our world. Peace and blessings to you. 🙏🏻

  7. So many people respond with rage and hate when something happens. I remember 9-11. I saw the planes hit the towers, then the Pentagon. I was in shock.
My immediate reaction was rage and a desire to “get” those responsible.
It took a full day for me to come to a bit of my senses.
First, I ordered not a US flag but an Earth flag. After that I said we should send food, seeds, educators, and funds for people to develop small businesses. I still wonder, if we’d done that instead of starting war and more wars, would the world be better today?

    1. A beautiful response Emilie. And yes if the whole world responded in love and connection everything would be different. We all have a responsibility towards the whole. Thankyou 🙏🏻❤️
