Changing paths….

Untie your knot.  Seek the path that demands your whole being –  Rumi

We are always evolving and changing through life however, when we cling to the familiar and insist staying on the path we have always known, we miss valuable opportunities to expand and create new experiences in life.

To choose a different path or direction, one has to be willing to give up all that is warm and cosy.  This is where the problem lies.  We know the path we are already on, it works for us, whereas another path may bring hardships and challenges and stepping into the unknown.  But what if the new path brings, healing,  growth, freedom and a deeper understanding of who we are and where we can go?

The fact is we will not know unless we try.  Our fears and our stubbornness keep us where we are and keep us believing, this is where we are meant to be.

When we have the courage to move in another direction we will know it is right when the path widens and opens to reveal the immense opportunities that are available and although this may mean letting go and facing our past, this is the direction that also reveals how our dreams can manifest.

“The most regretful people on earth are those who felt the call to creative work, who felt their own creative power restive and uprising, and gave to it neither power nor time.” ~ Mary Oliver

Staying on the usual path will always give us the same results, whereas choosing to step out and find a deeper meaning of our own life and our destiny, will allow our inner light to shine and create a path of fullness and enlightenment.

  1. This is so very true. Many prefer the warm and cozy but also sometimes boring life. It demands courage to dream and try to live out our dreams, while we still are able to do so. Otherwise there can come new and more easy reachable dreams.
I like to think that I have tried to live many of my dreams out so have less to regret at my last day in this life.
    Great post 😀

      1. Thank you too. I did choose to see my life in a positive way not to waste it either.
As you also know we can choose to live in our past or go on and use our life now and enjoy all the possibilities as we also ourselves are responsible to create 😉
        Have a nice day 😀

    1. You are indeed Don, stepping out of your comfort zone and changing your path and although scary at times, you will see the fruit at the end.

I always feel I need to tell you you should write a book! Of course not right now. Just down the track.

  2. Karen, Mary Oliver offers some wise words indeed. I am at the road now choosing to push forward and share art in my shop this month. It will be exciting and nerve racking at the same time. But how would I know or learn anything if I did not give it a go. Thanks for a timely post to keep me grounded.

    1. Mary Oliver inspires me too Kath. What a wonderful opportunity for you. Remember if there is an chance for us to step into our fears, then do it! You will be not be disappointed. 🙂

      1. Habits are the invisible architecture of daily life. We repeat about 40 percent of our behavior almost daily, so our habits shape our existence, and our future. If we change our habits, we change our lives.
~ Gretchen Rubin, Better Than Before: Mastering the Habits of Our Everyday Lives

  3. So timely Karen. Perhaps it’s because we are always changing yet trying to keep things the same.
Which means there is always opportunity to embrace change … and for us to find the courage to accept it and then move with it 🙂
I love this Rumi quote! Its a new one of me.
    Thank you!

    1. So true Val, we dont need to change our path if our life is on track but when there is an opportunity, I think we know and deep down we all have to step into the unknown. I love the Rumi quote too! 🙂

  4. I have always been one to try a new path. What it has done for me is create an interesting life. It also led me away from steady employment at times, so in retirement I have less than most do. But would I change my life so I could have more in retirement? No! Ever twist and turn has been wonderful.

  5. Sometimes the known path is warm and cozy, sometimes it’s head-smashingly frustrating Karen. 😉 Veering off the path, for me, has been scary, exciting, happy-making, nail-biting-sitting-at-the-edge-of-my-seat frightening, a breath of fresh air, vulnerable, empowering, trust building and a whole host of other words! ❤ So if I could, would I go back and just stay on the original path? Not a chance!

    1. Well said Diana, you are describing my life ha!! We are so glad you would not change a thing, because that has made you the beautiful person you are today! 🙂 GO Girl.

  6. Karen, yes taking that step out of our comfort zone is where we find the growth. I try to step out of my comfort zone often and when I do I find many wonderful things evolve as to my personal growth. Like walking the Camino de Santiago last year from France across Northern Spain. Lots of room for growth out their on the trail!

  7. I love the times when an unexpected path opens up or shows itself, and deciding to take that first step. The feeling of being in beginners mind. Newness. Scary, but rewarding. When things just fall into place. Not so fun when it is challenging and things start NOT falling into place, but worth it. Nice post. Thanks.

  8. The most regretful people on earth are those who felt the call to creative work, who felt their own creative power restive and uprising, and gave to it neither power nor time.” ~
I am two months away from entering my final year in education. It’s scary, thinking of retiring at 58 years old, without a firm plan….but I am in a place in life where I MUST LIVE MY TRUTH. Loved your post!

    1. The quote is perfect Alan and so true of some lives. I too have seen people living so unhappily and yet, unable to move forward. It is a gift of grace and God to be able to let go and step out.

  9. This is such a great post – we, my husband and I are experiencing life changing paths right now and this is perfect. We look at it as new opportunities, a bit scary and let’s see where these new times take us ~

    1. A wonderful attitude Mary. “Let’s see where it takes us” These opportunities are here for us to expand and explore our potential and embrace the fullness of life. Keep going strong. 🙂

  10. This is something I’ve known for years and yet still find so hard to apply in my life. I get better every year but sometimes, life asks for another leap of faith. And all I can do is sigh and say, “You’ve got to be kidding. Right?” 🙂

    1. Ha that is exactly how we all feel Kay! and the universe replies…”Why not?” Overtime we begin to trust and like you say, we do get better at it. Thankyou 🙂

  11. This applies to several people in my life, Karen, so thank you for that. (And by extension, it applies to me as well.)

  12. Having the career that I have, I am prone to change. I hate change, but has gotten used to it. And knowing change and being adaptable to it (sounds good) but my lifestyle has changed as well. I’ve gotten used to handle to accept things or relationships that I can’t keep because of imminent change.

    1. It’s true Rommel. You are definitely in a career that makes you adaptable and it is good to do this while you are young! Stillness is just as important in life and although change is never easy, it is often necessary for us to grow. Thanks for being here!

  13. We have to be willing to accept change no matter what our age. Otherwise, life would be so boring! The gypsy in me loves to explore new places and ideas.
