Say ‘YES’

I imagine that yes is the only living thing.
― E.E. Cummings

A man went to a Buddhist Monastery for a silent retreat.

After a week of silence, he felt healthier, calmer, and stronger but he felt like something was missing.

The teacher told him he could speak to a Buddhist Monk before he left.

The man went over and asked the Monk, ‘How do I find deep peace?’

The Monk replied, ‘I say YES to everything that happens in life. The good, the bad, and the ugly. This way I have no resistance to life and life has no resistance to me.

When the man returned home, he practiced this each day and was enlightened.

  1. Wasn’t there a Jim Carrey movie like this? He either had to say “yes’ to everything or he had to tell the truth all the time. Either way, it was a struggle! πŸ™‚

    1. Ha! Yes I agree Kristine, it was stressful movie. πŸ˜… And perhaps my word should be β€˜allow’ because when I resist β€˜what is’ I miss valuable lessons that may expand my life and my energy. πŸ§‘πŸ€—

      1. β€œAllowβ€œ was my word one year! I remember being underwhelmed when it came to me but it was probably a year of really great growth :-).

  2. Thanks for sharing. That is good philosophy for a happy life Karen, and runs parallel to what Paul the apostle learned through his many life struggles when he says “I have learned to be content in every situation.”
