Blind Ego

“The moment you become aware of the ego in you, it is strictly no longer the ego but just an old, conditioned mind pattern.

Ego implies unawareness.

Awareness and ego cannot coexist.”

Eckhart Tolle

A student said to his teacher,

“How will I know when I am free from being ruled by Ego?”

The teacher replied, “When you understand you are connected and are apart of every living thing on earth”

“That there is no separation.”

“But surely you do not mean the people who are evil, and rooted in wrongdoing,” said the student.

“I mean everyone that appears in your life as a teacher, and that could be a tree, a tragic experience, or an evil person.”

Until see yourself in every person and situation that comes to teach you, then you will never be free.”

These words came to me last night and it occurred to me how clever the ego is of blinding us from seeing the truth.

When someone we love, a friend or a difficult experience shows us a side that we do not like, it’s so easy to say, “It’s their problem, not mine.”

And in a way that is true, however; if they are in our life and we are confronted by their difficult behavior over and over, then we have to “take a knee” and give ourselves some space to see, and become aware, what they are mirroring back to us.

For eg. If we dislike someone who is angry, it doesn’t mean we are angry, but we may be fearful of conflict and this is what they may be showing us.

If we dislike someone’s controlling nature, then perhaps we need to look at where we are trying to control life, or our fear of not trusting in life.

If someone in our life never turns up on time, perhaps we hold a fear about time and a fear that you will not receive what you need on time.

The list goes on… but our ego will continue to convince us, we have nothing to do with the conflict we are experiencing, and this is simply not true.

Of course, we could ignore all the difficult people that appear in our life and keep searching for the only the right people that will help us feel good about ourselves, however what I have discovered is that these teachers are what I am looking for.  And when I ignore these people and these situations, then I am ignoring my true freedom.

These teachers, show me again and again what needs to be shifted in me, what I need to let go in me, and what needs to be faced in me.

And although it is difficult to recognize this blind ego in ourselves, and to face its brokenness, its wounding and its vulnerability;

This is where you will find your deep freedom, peace and happiness.

This is where you will become one with life.

  2. A profound story, Karen and when we are not in sync with nature or with human beings then it is our Ego that is showing its head and will not take us anywhere but full of negativity. I loved the ending it was so true for a happy life. Thanks.

  3. Nice way to kick out the ego too, Karen 🙂
When I meet souls, as act in a way, I don’t like, I use to ask myself, what kind of projections, they send back to me. Often I receive an answer.

    1. It does take time to understand why it’s appearing in our life Eliza and how do we know we have healed it? It stops appearing! Keep flowing 💦💧🌊💕💚

  4. Karen this post had me taking a long breath and exhaling…sometimes we get so busy that we forget to look at our responses and to the teachers who incite those responses…thank you for the reminder…xo
