Every cell counts..

Humankind has not woven the web of life.  We are but one thread within it.  Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.  All things are bound together.  All things connect.

Chief Seattle

Our bodies are made up of roughly a hundred million (100,000,000,000,000) tiny cells that can only be seen under a microscope, and each cell has a unique role to play in helping our body function fully.

Even the slightest change in one cell or when a cell is damaged, will alarm the body to react and try to repair or replace the cell so normal function can continue.  If a cell dies, the body will remove it and replace it with another functioning cell, or fill the gap with connective tissue to provide structural support for the remaining cells.

But when cancer cell splits from the normal functioning cells and begin to grow in another area, not only do they leave the healthy cells and the natural repair process, they also ignore any signals that tell them to self destruct.

You may wonder why I am giving you a lesson on cell function in our body.  Well, if we can understand even the basic knowledge of how the body works as a whole, we can begin to see how our small part in this big crazy world is always affecting the whole, no matter if it is a change of thought, a sickness, an angry outburst or a new decision.

It’s easy to believe that because we are one of 100,000,000,000,000 tiny cells in the world, that our one cell (life) couldn’t possibly make a difference, or even create the slightest change in another.  But think again.  Each one of us is needed in the world, each one of us has a unique job to do for the whole.  If we don’t play our part, then we all suffer in some way.

When I take responsibility for my cell each and every morning, I remember what a privilege it is to be here, and to live knowing that my part is helping the whole continue and grow.

However, if I decide to separate from this truth and continue to ignore the signals time and time again and go off and do my own thing, well take pause, because this ignoring will not just affect my cell and the whole, but more importantly, will be past on to my children and their children’s children; and if I don’t have children, then I will leave this imprint on the whole as well.

Sounds like a good reason to take responsibility for my cell each day.

  1. It is interesting, isn’t it? The myriad ways nature has of showing us the patterns of connection of us to each other, humans to all of nature and so on. It’s all there for us to see…if we open our eyes (hearts). Lovely post Karen. Indeed it is an important reminder/call to us to remember that we are a part of it all. Thank you. 💕

  2. Beautiful thoughts. And we are all connected. Even though I find that hard to believe when I’m cut off in traffic or annoyed at a fellow citizen of the world:).

    1. It is hard to think that would affect the whole, but imagine if we all lived like it did? That each decision we made really was felt and I call you from Australia and say “Kay, that really hurt ha!” It is insane, but imagine a world where we are all that aware!! It would be amazing!! 👏💕

    2. Annoyance or anger with another fellow citizen can, if we allow it, ripple through our day, affecting every other person that crosses our path. Then, those individuals, thereby affected, can take it home at the end of their workday. On and on that ripple of annoyance or anger can spread.

  3. Take responsibility for it all ~ I love it. And you have quoted one of my favorite leaders, Chief Seattle. One small change for the good can have an incredible affect on others. Beautiful post, Karen.

    1. Yes it’s a favourite quote of mine too Randall! Thank you. 🙏🏻
