“If you let cloudy water settle
It will become clear
If you let your upset mind settle
Your course will also become clear.”
Jack Kornfield’s “Buddha’s Little Instruction Book
How often have I rushed ahead, not trusting that life and my situations will balance and settle in the right time?
How often do I think I know better and stubbornly or impatiently forge ahead, not listening or waiting for clarity?
Who can be still until their mud settles?
And the water is cleared by itself?
Can you remain tranquil until right action occurs by itself?
The Master doesn’t seek fulfillment.
For only those who are not full, are able to be used,
which brings the feeling of completeness.
Tao Te Ching Lao Tzu Chapter 14
so settling, Karen!
looking a little less
muddy in my jar 🙂
I can see that clearly David! 🤓
I know this to be true
Yes it’s good when we finally allow Beth 💚
Karen, this is just GREAT stuff. In my case it’s not even a lack of trust, but simply a great lack of patience…. I TRUST all will be well and I even KNOW that however long things take, it will eventually (!!) turn out for the good, but the part in between….. or as I like to say: God, give me patience, but NOW IMMEDIATELY! 😉
Ha! Patience is a definitely a virtue Kiki!
Today I started with that unsettled feeling, and rather than trying to push through, I am attempting to breathe and let the mud settle. Its a challenge!
It is challenging Heather and I have realised I never make good decisions in the cloudiness. Breathing through it and sitting with it until it passes, is always the right practice for success! I hope it clears for you soon 💚💕
Very true. When water becomes turbulent, it stirs up all the mud which had precipitated below. Similarly in our life when we face turbulent times, “mud” clouds our judgment and makes it difficult for us to see the right path. We simply need to wait till the mud settles down again and the right path reveals itself. I don’t even think it is a matter of “trust”, the mud simply HAS TO settle down, that is the nature’s way.
Thanks for this inspiring and also reassuring post.
Very true and if we deeply trusted it would settle every time, then there is no need for impatience or frustration right? 🙏🏻🌈
“Muddy water is best cleared by leaving it alone.” – Alan Watts
If only we learned this when we were younger. Grateful that I know it now…and I appreciate this lovely post as a reminder when I feel the pull to get involved…an old habit. Letting the muddy water clear…then the path forward will be clear. 🙏🏻
Yes that’s it Carrie! Best to leave it alone and I too wish we were all taught this before we learned the hard way! 🙂 Thank you.
It’s amazing how many things take care of themselves and how easy it is to miss the fact that we stir the water when we most want it to be clear. Very insightful, Karen
Thank you Ka! I agree, when I get out of the way, life usually works itself out perfectly. 🙂
Nice!
Wise advice. I often feel hesitation or waiting is somehow “weak” versus the strength of forging ahead. But sometimes it’s not strength, it’s a misguided urge for action.
Yes that’s it. To sit in stillness and wait is always the challenge! I’m still practising! 💕
