Press Pause

A pause gives you breathing space,
So listen, to the whispers of the real you,
waiting to happen.”
Tara Estacaan

When our life is packed with too much activity, and there is no room for pause; it leaves no space to receive the universal flow of wisdom, love and creativity.  When we take a pause, a moment in time, we give space to ignite the flame within.

This is from Fire, by Judy Brown

What makes a fire burn
is space between the logs,
a breathing space.
Too much of a good thing,
too many logs
packed in too tight
can douse the flame
almost as surely
as a pail of water would.

So building fires
requires attention
to the spaces in between…

…A fire
grows
simply because the space is there,
with openings
in which the flame
that knows just how it wants to burn
can find its way…

Creating a Pause

Sit in nature under a tree or on the floor at home

Close your eyes

Take a deep long breath in and out through your mouth.  Repeat this 4 times

In the next breath in, hold for 3 and breathe out for three.  Repeat this 4 times

Notice how you body feels in this space

Notice how your body relaxes in the space

Move down your body slowly and find spaces that feel tight or contracted

Breathe into those parts of your body

Feel how it creates space and relaxes your muscles and your busy mind

Notice what comes up for you in this space and what your body can teach you.

(Practice anytime you need a pause)

  1. Our recent move has provoked an unavoidable pause, and though difficult to deal with at times, I am realizing that it has been very valuable to both my head and my heart. Thank you for elucidating this, Karen! Xo

    1. It’s so true Lori. Often we are forced into situations that change us and yet, it also creates new practices that enhance our future. You are a great example of this and I’m glad it feels like it’s helping. 💕💚

  2. Beautiful reminder to pay attention to the spaces in our lives and to breathe! I do conscious breathing a lot and in fact will talk to myself out loud encouraging myself to take deep breaths. And, every time I get a chance I am in a forest for restoration and delight! GREAT post and I thank you! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

  3. Oh, this is exactly what I needed to hear today–as life shifts again and I remind myself to pause. Not to rush to figure things out. To allow space for a new fire to take off . . . thank you. XXOO

    1. It’s a beautiful poem! And so true how we cram all the logs on top of one another in life, and then wonder why there’s no space for the fire within and around us to light up! Glad you can find some pause today 💕💕 Have a great week xx

  4. I love this poem and haven’t seen it in years. Thanks for bringing it back and for the reminder to breathe. Four deep breaths and I can feel the difference in my body.
