The hummingbird symbolizes the enjoyment of life and lightness of being. This fascinating bird is capable of the most amazing feats despite its small size, such as travelling great distances or being able to fly backwards.
I love the hummingbird and it’s energy, as it can remind us and encourage us that we do not have to be big or important to achieve everything we dream of in life. It’s wonderful spirit and connection to life can teach us a great deal.
Amazing migrators, some hummingbirds are known to wing their way as far as 2000 miles to reach their destination. This quality reminds us to be persistent in the pursuit of our dreams, and adopt the tenacity of the hummingbird in our lives.
Hummingbirds are tireless in their pursuit of Joy in life. They are always seeking the sweetest nectar and this is a great reminder for us to seek only the best in life.
- “Where is our joy?”
- “Is our happiness found within, or do we seek it externally?”
- “What is the source of our joy?”
- “What must we do to increase our joy?”
Hummingbird energy is vibrant and colourful and as they represent “Joy” their energy can remind us to have:
- Lightness of being and enjoyment of life
- Being more present
- Independence
- Bringing playfulness and joy in your life
- Lifting up negativity
- Swiftness, ability to respond quickly
- Resiliency, being able to travel great distances tirelessly
Understanding nature and how it lives everyday, always reminds me how I can apply that in my own life and along every part of my journey.
“They are always seeking the sweetest nectar and this is a great reminder for us to seek only the best in life.”
This is such positive goal to strive for. Thanks for this today.
Thankyou Elizabeth and for your contribution to this blog! Now that spring has arrived it reminds me of this beautiful bird and a time to set some new goals.

No wonder I love our hummingbirds so much…..harbingers of life and lightness. My favorite time is when they come hover near me, as if to ask, “What are you?”
Yes how could we not love them? They are so full of life and you are very blest to have them near you.
Karen
A wonderful post. I truly enjoyed the analogy you made between the hummingbird and our happiness and joy. A great reminder for me to be more playful. Thanks. 🙂
Thankyou Carol. I am often so serious in life, it is a great reminder to us all!

Wonderful and insightful post Karen.
We have hummingbirds on our property. They zip around feeders we provide or the flowers that God provides. I enjoy the simple gift of relaxation as I sit still and watch them going about their business.
The purpose they fulfill, that is of their nature, has an added effect. Which has nothing to do with that nature. It the joy I just spoke of, that is available to any who seek a moment’s peace.

Alan you are so lucky to have them on your property, I would love to see them. Joy is available to us all, I agree, we just need to stop and realise it is always here.

What an inspiring post! Thank you Karen. I love all the little hummingbirds that visit the flowers in my front yard. Sometimes I sit on the porch with my morning coffee, and they will fly right into my space as if to say hello. I always feel honored by their visits.
Thankyou MK, you are so lucky to have them near you. I think what the Hummingbird achieves in it’s life is always inspiring!
Karen whenever I see a picture of a hummingbird I smile, I love them and yet have never had the chance to see one in the wild, now that would be something. Nature has so much to offer us. One day I will set out to find one, maybe South America me thinks.
Yes its ashame we don’t have them here in Australia! Let me know when you are heading off and maybe I will come with you ha.
This is why I called my blog Hummingbird Redemption! Thankyou for this beautiful piece. xxx
Reblogged this on Hummingbird Redemption.
That is a great name to have! and thankyou so much for the reblog, I appreciate it.

Loved this post about hummers! I adore those sweet little creatures. We have a feeder right outside the glass doors to our family room, and my favorite thing, especially in the morning, is to sit and watch them come and feed. In one of my recent posts, I posted a great shot that I got through the glass doors of one of them. The camera had stopped the movement of its tiny wings so that they looked like an angel’s wings. Blessings, Natalie 🙂
Thankyou Natalie, Im so jealous of anyone that gets to see them regularly! The picture you took sounds beautiful, they hold such amazing energy.

Hi Karen, thanks so much for stopping by to like my blog post on homelessness, They Are Everywhere. This post on hummingbirds is beautiful, reminds me of the aspiration of Metta meditation, “May all beings be able to recognize and touch the seeds of joy and happiness in themselves.” Your words and graphics bring those of us who read it just such an opportunity now!
Thankyou. I love the quote from the Metta Meditation, I will keep this close and say often.
