Use your voice for kindness, your ears for compassion, your hands for charity, your mind for truth, and your heart for love.” – Anonymous
Pema Chodron writes about a meditation student she was working with who had a serious alcohol and drug problem.
She shares how proud she was of him and how he made great strides towards his recovery when suddenly he went out on a binge.
When she found out, she was so disappointed in the student and because she did not know what to do, she went to see her teacher Trungpa Rinpoche. But after she shared this story with Rinpoche, he expressed his disappointment with her reaction and that being angry at him was her problem.
He said, ‘Never have or hold onto expectations for another person, or set goals for them because this can be a hidden agenda to want their success story to be ours.
Instead, be patient and kind to those who are suffering and wounded.
Let your presence in their life feel safe, open, and generous.

It takes a long time to realize that any ‘reaction’ is inside us. Great post dear lady, we’ll get there by understanding the us inside 😀 ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋
Yes so true Mark. Thank you 🙏🏻
a great lesson, even when difficult to do

Beautiful story, Karen, and thank you for sharing. ‘Never have or hold onto expectations for another person…” instead be kind and supportive so they can achieve. Brilliantly simple, yet sometimes can be so difficult. Wishing you a great week ahead (and hope you had a nice Easter weekend).
It is difficult to watch our loved ones and friends suffer but knowing we can contribute to their story with love and compassion gives room for all of us to heal and grow. Hope you had a great Easter too Randall. 🐣
Such timely wisdom, Karen. This is so hard to remember during the times we need to show patience and compassion to those who need it most. 💜
I too continue to learn this Carol. It is a gift we can give each other 🧡
