Self-Esteem

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection”― Siddhārtha Gautama

If I do not believe in myself, if I do not love myself, then who can?  It was a long time before I realised no-one else could.  I wanted everyone else in my life to make me feel good about myself and it didn’t matter how many times I received their approval, it never filled me or allowed me to feel complete.

Self-esteem is the opinion you have of yourself.  Knowing who you are and valuing and respecting yourself is how we become confident in ourselves.  While everyone lacks confidence and has self-doubts in life, when we are constantly unhappy with our lives and other people, it is usually a sign we need to look within and search why.

Searching for approval and validation from our family and friends will always fall short and fail to help us grow.  It’s not a matter of building your self-esteem, it’s not a matter of thinking you are great, it’s more about letting go of the illusion you have created in your mind and what you believe others want you to be.  It’s about allowing your magnificent self to shine through naturally without judgement.

Deep within, we actually know who we are, we have all the answers we need and we know what we need to do.  When we trust that inner voice and trust that we have this ability within us, that’s when we will see the change we want in our life.

“There is no magic cure, no making it all go away quickly. There are only small steps upward; an easier day, an unexpected laugh, a mirror that doesn’t matter anymore.”― Laurie Halse Anderson

We are all wonderfully unique, we all have amazing gifts to share and receive from each other.  When I step back and begin to know and feel this magnificence, this oneness with everyone, I begin to love who I am and cannot wait to learn more about this unlimited potential I have within.

  1. Karen, your timing is impeccable. Thank you for the reminder of self love. It is so easy to fall into the trap of seeking love outside ourselves. Melissa

    1. Thanks Mel, it is a gift to have self love for ourselves. It changes how we see and live in this beautiful world.

  2. Yes this is extremely true, the easiest way to start thinking positively is to consider certain positive thoughts for the day, and see how they can change your results for the better, simply by keeping positivity in mind.
