Heart Space

‘I would like my life to be a statement of love and compassion and where it isn’t, that is where my work lies.’

Learning to be led by my heart and intuition is not something I learned growing up and so, it has been a practice for many years to understand how to connect with this expansive energy and wisdom.

In order to connect with this infinite being within, I first had to understand who I thought I was.

Ego Mind – This space shows up when I feel threatened, or feel like I need to defend my false identity. This space arises in me when I feel powerless to change a situation, or when I want to prove to another person I am right.

Body Memory – This shows up in my body as a fear or anxiety, especially when I am in a situation that reminds me of an experience I
faced in my younger years. This space can show up and is triggered in us anytime without warning, and it can feel like we are back in the same situation we had in the past.

Fear Projections – This space shows up as fear and control when I want certainty in life.  In this space, I want to ignore my feelings of uncertainty and instead, do anything to regain a sense of safety and familiarity or the desired outcome I want.

Heart Space – This unchanging space is always present within us and is connected to everything in life.

When we connect and discover this space, there is a silence, compassion, and presence that is here by itself. We do not need to create this space. This space opens
naturally when we are open to it and as we surrender into it, it reveals our authentic nature, layer by layer.

To truly know the heart space we must continually observe without judgement, our stories, thoughts, and fears from a beginner’s mind.

With practice and patience, we can learn to trust, that our hearts will always guide us through love, peace, and wisdom.

  1. Karen, I appreciate this post so much. It is a reflection to me of what this year has been for me. It has served to remind me, in many ways, that heart space is where our true treasure lies. As humans, however, we remember and we forget and then we remember. The process is life…indeed. A powerful reminder for me to begin the week. Thank you, Karen. 🙏🏻💜

  2. Karen, love the categories which lead to the true resolve of the heart.

This human heart of yours is not perfect in shape as a valentine heart. There’s a small piece missing out of the side of your heart and out of every heart. That is the piece that was torn out of the universal heart of humanity on the cross. When God made your heart and every other heart, he found it so good that he kept a small sample of it in heaven and then sent the rest of it into the world where it would try to fill up all the love it could, but where it would never be really happy, never totally in love, never able to love anyone with a whole heart because it hasn’t a whole heart to love with. It will never be happy until it goes back again to God to recover that piece that he has been keeping for it from all eternity. – Venerable Fulton J. Sheen

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” – St. Augustine

  3. Dear Karen
Wise words…. only I would *always* put he heart space in 1st place. Heart ❤️ wins over every other feeling, notion, experience, is above all intelligence and knowledge.
    Thank you for this share.

  4. Beautifully written Karen, that heart space is a great teacher. It may take many years but the beauty in its love is all the more appreciated because of what it took to find it. Great post, thank you for sharing its wisdom 😀❤️🙏

    1. Yes so true!
The stories and beliefs we grew up believing are strong and it takes patience and practice to guide ourselves back to our truth and peace each day. Thank you 💕🧡🤗

  5. I find these words so peaceful and reassuring: “We do not need to create this space. This space opens naturally when we are open to it and as we surrender into it, it reveals our authentic nature, layer by layer.” I’m going to let those sit for awhile and bask in that glow. Thank you:)

  6. This is clear and powerful. I especially like, “Heart Space – This unchanging space is always present within us and is connected to everything in life. AND This space opens
naturally when we are open to it and as we surrender into it, it reveals our authentic nature, layer by layer.” It can feel like accepting an invitation that is always available.
    Keep shining your light.
