What’s Important To You?

Why is it, that we do not realise what is important to us, until it is taken away?

May we all cherish the gifts and abundance that is present in this moment.

‘The master was strolling through a wheat field when a disciple came up to him and asked, “I cannot tell which is the true path or what is important to me? What’s the secret?”

“What does that ring on your right hand mean to you?” asked the master.

“My father gave it to me before he died.”

“Well, give it to me” asked the Master.

The disciple obeyed, and the master tossed the ring into the middle of the wheat field.

“Now what?” shouted the disciple.

“Now you must stop everything to look for the ring! Because it’s important to you,” said the Master.

“And When you find the ring, remember this:

“You answered the question that you asked of me.

Trust, that you already know what is important to you and how to stay true on your path.”

  1. Oh, this is why I try not to let too many things become important! B/c it’s not the things, right? It’s the memories and the love . . . thanks again for reminding us of a good thought!

  2. Excellent post, Karen. There are times when we need to take the time and work out what we value and hold essential… sometimes I wonder if people are becoming too reliant on the words of others that only they can answer.

    1. You make such a good point Randall. To know ourselves deeply, requires stillness and room to listen and be, so perhaps that is why it seems easier to ask another for the answers that we already know. ☺️
