Be strong

potters-wheel-clay - Baptist & Reflector

“I will take the sun in my mouth
and leap into the ripe air
Alive
with closed eyes
to dash against darkness”
― E.E. Cummings

I did a pottery class on Saturday with my family.

None of us had tried this before and like most new adventures in life, making something from nothing, is much harder than it looks.

However, it takes patience and practice to become the master of our creations and life.

Each time the teacher came over to supervise our work and answer our questions, she said, ‘You need to be strong as you mold your clay. Without strength as you move with the clay, it will fall apart and you will not create the piece you want.’

It wasn’t until after the class I realized how relevant her comment was.

Life is always asking us to be open to change and to create the dreams we deserve in life. But this requires strength, commitment and a daily practice to create our visions into reality. Without it, we may lose sight of our greatest potential.

“In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.”
― Albert Camus

  1. I think any experience that moves us out of our comfort zone or forces us to look at the world in a new way can be helpful. I’ve been taking horseback riding lessons, and it is amazing how enlightening (and liberating) is has been to use my body and mind in a new way. ☺️

  2. Wonderful post with one of my favorite quotes. My daughter is a long time potter. I took a class because I wanted to know what was involved. Very difficult. Lots of practice required. Nice working with the clay…..like having hands in warm soil.

  3. So true Karen. Change does take strength and bravery too. I don’t know why, but my following you button was unchecked so I had to click it on again. So weird how that seems to happen, but that’s why you received a notice that I’m following you.
