New Awareness

“The history of human consciousness is marked by the battle between the old awareness, the ways of fear, and the new awareness, the ways of love”  – Alberto Villoldo Ph.D.

Last weekend I was invited to speak at a Writers workshop.  It was a small group of women and men who were learning how to finish and publish their book and I was asked to share about my experiences choosing Assisted Publishing and about the challenges I faced writing my book.

One of the most common fears a writer faces, is a mixture of doubts and beliefs that their writing is not worthy to publish.  This is also the main reason we have so many talented writer’s out there with manuscripts by their computer, waiting to be good enough.

A lot of the writers at this workshop were in their late 60’s and early 70’s.  Some have been resisting over many years to finish their book and publish it.  It showed me yet again, that our fears are so powerful, that they can keep us trapped in the illusion that we all have time.

If we do have time, why do so many people on their death bed leave this world with regrets?  Why do our fears that keep us small in life, suddenly become so insignificant at the hour of our death?

The truth is, we don’t know how long we have and so when we truly accept this fact, we can finally step out of our comfort zone and start making decisions today, no longer wasting another moment.

  1. I really needed this, especially this week, so thank you so much. I emailed the nursing home manager in an attempt to reconcile our fraught relationship and I even suggested a coffee or lunch! Then, when there was no reply I was gripped by the fear of yet another altercation and wondered why the hell I even bothered when it affects me so dramatically. Her reply finally came yesterday and it was polite and fine (although her ‘boundaries’ precluded coffee/lunch which is understandable). I immediately replied nicely and now feel that I have done my best to reconcile and that the air has been cleared. Having had so few personal conflicts in my life, I don’t handle them well and tend to overreact. Sorry – am blathering now!

  2. I know this applies to many would-be writers and artists, but is also universally true for anything in life. Beautiful reminder of us having only the present moment. ❤

    1. I’m so glad Lorrie! We all have these fears and when we realise they are not the truth, we can start living our dreams. We don’t celebrate thanksgiving in Australia but I love the idea and believe gratitude creates abundance. Hope yours was wonderful 🙏🏻💕

  3. Karen such encouragement and inspiration here, thankful that I have your book to remind me to spread those wings, no matter what is happening, we don’t get a second go at it. Also to have the faith to step off that cliff knowing Im strong enough to deal with what comes in life, my wings will open and I may soar. Working hard at the dreams so they may become my new reality. Wish I could have been at the talk I know I would have loved it. I use to believe I could never afford to print my own picture book and now my husbands little book nest egg is growing and my paintings are selling and I can see that it will happen.

    1. You are an inspiration Kath!! It doesn’t matter how we get to our destination, it matters that we get up each day and work towards it. You are doing that and I can see it happening for you too! Brava 💕💚
