Grace

‘You can have the other words…. chance, luck, coincidence, serendipity. I’ll take grace.

I don’t know what it is exactly, but I’ll take it.’ – Mary Oliver

I’m pretty sure Mary Oliver knew what grace was. Her poems and the deep understanding she had of nature and life, will always inspire me.

If I had to describe grace, I would say it arrives like an unexpected breeze on a hot summer’s day, or as a sudden turn of events when all seemed lost. Or as a soft pink cloud that hovers after a beautiful sunset.

Grace humbles me. It keeps me open to the miracles born out of simple moments. It transcends my suffering and gives me hope. Grace reminds me I am more than the stories I have told myself.

Over time I have learned that grace doesn’t need praise or attention, it only needs an open heart and room to be received.

Grace must be lived and breathed. Perhaps you are not where you want to be today –

So Breathe. Live into the grace offered to you from God in this moment. And, don’t worry.

Mary Oliver
