Surrender

“I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had no where else to go. My own wisdom and that of all about me seemed insufficient for that day.”
Abraham Lincoln

What is surrender?

We all have an understanding or an experience of what we believe surrender is.  Recently I heard a talk from Sadhguru on ‘Surrendering’ that simply made me stop and say “Yes!”  that’s it.

He describes surrendering like being trapped in a prison.  There is no way out.  You cannot leave this prison standing.  And so we have a choice.  We can stay in this prison for life, or discover there is a gutter, a filthy gutter.

If you crawl through this gutter you can have freedom.  It will be the most horrible filth you will ever crawl through.  This filth will get up your nose, in your mouth and over every part of your body, but it doesn’t matter, because it will lead you to freedom.

Surrender is the realization, in your present form, you cannot leave this prison.  And so, we must choose.

    1. It is full on! I guess for me, facing the death of my son, I can hear these words and say yes! that’s exactly what I did to find my freedom and even though I still have more to learn in life, once you’ve been through the gutter, you can do anything! Thanks Eliza 💚

    1. Yes that’s it Kay and sometimes we spend a lifetime trying all the other options just to avoid the messy gutter. But at the end of the day, I can vouch that the gutter is the only way out of the prison. Not a pleasant thought ha!! 💕💚 thanks lovely and have a great weekend.

  1. A powerful description of surrender. I have been reflecting on experiences in my life in which surrender or succumb was the choice. Surrender truly was the way out by going through. This image of going through the dirty gutter is one that makes sense to me. What a vivid metaphor for the process! 🙏🏻💕
