Open the Door

“Every new self-discovery leads you to more wholeness, opens your heart, makes you humble, and a better person to serve and love others.”  Assegid Habtewold

The Arabs used to say,

When a stranger appears at your door,

Feed him for three days

before asking who he is,

Where he’s come from,

Where he’s headed.

That way, he will have strength

enough to answer.

Or by then,

You’ll be such good friends,

you don’t care.

As we get older, we often shut the door to new experiences, self-discovery, or new people.

But when we live in a ‘beginners mind’, we will always be open to a new guest or a new experience, and who knows where it may lead us?

  1. Yes…true. After a period of rest, reflection and healing, I feel I am once again opening the door to new experiences. Lovely post and timely reminder, Karen. Thank you. 💕🙏🏻

  2. I love the quote from Naomi Shihab Nye. What a lovely message. It’s true though isn’t it. As we get older we become suspicious of newcomers. Such a shame and a lot of missed opportunities to forge new friendships.

    1. Well I was playing around with it last weekend and I only meant to do a new title, but I think I made a new blog? I’m not very good with technology ha! 😃

  3. I love this post ~ I love the quotes ~ and love this new layout of your blog. Never stop striving 🙂 You never know where something new will take you ~ simply perfect, Karen, and wishing you a great summer and coming weekend.
